•become an Expert Extraordinaire: This means never stop learning. Subscribe to an industry social networking site, blog, podcast, newsletter and/or magazine and stay on top of the latest industry news and trends. Reach out to Successful SUPERvisors within your company, industry and community and talk to them about what works for them and what doesn’t. Most importantly, take what you learn and put it back out there; meet with your team, start a blog, write a newsletter, or simply talk about it.
• offer Full Benefits: I’m not talking medical and a 401k, I’m talking “what’s in it for them?” type of stuff. Followers need to feel like their getting something in return; this means personalizing your interaction with them so that you are able to give them what they need. Guide, train, motivate, consult with and reward them.
•establish a Good Rep: Followers need to feel confident that their SUPERvisor will take full responsibility for failures and share victories. A Successful SUPERvisor must work on building trust, longevity and credibility on a daily basis and must work on being responsive, straight forward, and consistent.
Take Action: This week plan out how you will become an Expert Extraordinaire, decide on what benefits you’re willing to offer and what you’ll do to establish a good reputation and then, do it.
Keep On: Remember that you’ve made the conscious decision to lead, continue to copycat the Successful SUPERvisors of your past and tell yourself that you’re a Super SUPERvisor! Believe it.
